Financial Literacy Project
The Financial Literacy Project seeks to open a channel for microfinance capital and, in the process, teach students about the principles of borrowing and lending. In a short span of time, our organization has processed thousands of dollars in loans and funded nearly 30 entrepreneurs in the
developing world. In less than a year, we have mentored over a hundred students from across Canada as part of the Canadian Student Microfinance Alliance (CSMA) network. We lead workshops meant to develop financial literacy and ensure that students can successfully process micro loans. The response has been overwhelming; with several students citing the CSMA as a spark that has made microfinance their passion. Our experience in microfinance has opened our eyes to the possibility of balancing philaphilanthropy and entrepreneurship, and we hope to continue our efforts in the long term.
